How to dye your own hair. Fast and even

The desire to change the image is inherent in any of us. But the cost of the procedure in beauty salons makes many ladies give up the idea. From now on, you do not need an expensive stylist at all! Knowing how to dye your hair at home, you will do everything yourself!

4 steps for self-coloring

If you decide to dye your hair at home, follow these steps.

Step 1. Choose the right color

Any change in style starts with a shade. It is very difficult to choose it, since very rarely a lady knows exactly what she wants. Experiment, especially if you want to change dramatically. You can try on wigs or just upload a photo to the site and choose the color on the Internet. At the same time, you should also take into account your color type, as well as the need to change the entire wardrobe, because what suits a redhead may not suit a blonde.

Stage 2. Buying hair dye

  • When choosing a package with the desired color in the store, be sure to read the instructions on the side of the pack. It contains points regarding dosage for different lengths of strands. For medium and long hair, you may need two or even three packs;
  • All colors of modern paints are divided into three groups - blond, black and chestnut. And already each of them can be separately divided into different tones (light and dark). If you need to paint dark color, try to start more light shade from this color palette. And one more thing - when coloring your hair at home, give preference to cold shades. Warm colors often behave "inappropriately", so it would be better to leave them to a specialist;
  • If you want to save money, analyze the additional qualities of the paint. Some give strands shine, others paint over gray hair. If you do not need it, take another paint - it will be cheaper. The price is also affected by the branded balm in the kit. If you have your own product that suits you, buy paint without balm;
  • If you dye your hair regularly, use the same brand of dyes. Even a very small difference in the composition of paints can adversely affect the health of the hair.

Stage 3. Additional accessories

For painting you need:

  • Special brush;
  • Comb;
  • Protective cape on the shoulders (it can be replaced with an old robe or towel);
  • Oily cream. They need to lubricate the skin along the hairline, as well as the ears, temples, and neck. The cream does not allow the paint to color the skin as well.

Stage 4. Painting

It will not be so difficult to paint the strands for yourself if you strictly follow the instructions on the package:

  1. Thoroughly mix the dye and oxidant.
  2. Comb the strands well. To improve the effect, they can be slightly moistened.
  3. Divide the hair into four parts - from the forehead to the back of the head, occipital, right temporal and left temporal.
  4. In each zone, first lubricate only the root zone. The layer must be even. Move the brush very quickly, otherwise your hair will take on a different shade.
  5. Spread this mixture over the entire length of your hair.
  6. Leave for half an hour. If you are painting for the first time, it is better to cut off a thin curl and try the dye of your choice on it.
  7. Wash your hair with shampoo.
  8. At the end of the process, lubricate the hair with the balm that comes with the kit.

The whole coloring process looks like this:

How to tint only the roots?

If you only need to touch up the roots of your hair, apply the dye to them for about 20 minutes. Even for long lengths, one package is enough. Stretch the rest of the product over the rest of the hair and wait 10 minutes. Then wet the strands with a little water and lather well with your hands. Wash your hair with shampoo or just water. In the latter case, the color will be more intense.

How to dye a long braid?

The technique of dyeing long hair is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance. First, paint only the roots. Then divide the braid into several thin strands, apply a small dose of dye to each and coat it with a comb. This will ensure even coloring. Collect all the dyed strands in one bun and hide your head in a bag. Wait for the right time and rinse everything thoroughly. Lastly, apply a moisturizing balm.

Attention! If you did not succeed in dyeing the strands in the chosen shade yourself, do not try to fix everything with another procedure. Wait two weeks - in no case can you re-paint earlier, because the strands will suffer greatly.

  • Tip 1. Do not add any other components in the form of balms, shampoos and oils to chemical dyes. This updated roster can be unpredictable.
  • Tip 2. Do not prepare the paint for the future, apply it immediately.
  • Tip 3. Work only with gloves - chemical components have a bad effect on the skin.
  • Tip 4. Modern cream paints do not spread over the skin, therefore there is no need for polyethylene, as well as a warm towel.
  • Tip 5. Do not combine perm with coloring.
  • Tip 6. Remember, the coloring composition is more profitable not to overdo it than to overdo it on the strands.
  • Tip 7. Be sure to buy cosmetics for color-treated hair care (shampoo, balm and mask).
  • Tip 8. Hair after painting should be dried without a hair dryer.
  • Tip 9. Do not wash your hair with shampoo for two or three days before the procedure. This will allow the pigment to fix much better. The main thing is that there are no residues of varnish and other styling products on the strands.
  • Tip 10. If there are rashes, wounds, scratches or itching on the scalp, postpone the procedure.

What you need to know before coloring your hair

If you decide to carry out the hair coloring procedure for the first time, then you need to consider the following important points:

  1. A few days before dyeing, you should stop using masks, as they cover the hair with a dense protective film, as a result of which the paint will not penetrate deeper into the hair.
  2. There is no need to wash your hair with shampoo immediately before dyeing, it will be much better if the natural fatty film protects your scalp from the effects of a chemical oxidizing agent.
  3. For better application paint you can slightly dampen the hair, but not much! Since water dilutes the dye and the color of dyed hair becomes less intense.
  4. In order not to stain the strip of skin along the edge of the hair, lubricate these areas of the skin before the staining procedure with a fat cream. Then you can easily remove it with a cotton pad.

You will need the following hair coloring tools:

  • thin rubber gloves;
  • a comb with rare teeth;
  • flat brush;
  • 4-5 hair clips;
  • glass container for diluting paint;
  • a large mirror, even better - trellis.

From above you need to wear clothes that will not be a pity if it gets dirty with paint, or wrap yourself in a protective perilink.

Choosing the right shade

If you have not yet decided who you better transform into - a burning brunette or a delicate blonde, pay attention to the shade of your skin. If you have too pale skin, you should not choose a shade of hair that is too dark, it looks unnatural and can even age you by several years. But for owners of olive skin, on the contrary, the choice of dark shades for hair coloring will be the most successful solution. If you have pink skin, you should avoid golden blonde and red. Stop your choice on ashy shades of hair.

Which paint do you prefer

It is important to choose the right hair dye for home hair coloring so as not to harm them.

Some women mistakenly believe that you can get a rich and bright shade using only paints containing ammonia. However, this is far from the case, modern hair coloring products based on such natural ingredients as grape seeds, birch extract or walnut shells color gently and gently, enveloping each hair without penetrating into its structure. When choosing paint for home hair coloring, you should pay attention not only to the fact that it does not contain ammonia, but also to avoid the presence of such a component as paraphenylenediamine, which is very toxic.

  1. Comb your hair well and divide it into several sections: back of the head, crown, temple on the left, temple on the right. Clamp with crabs.
  2. Start painting from the back of the head, as the skin is colder here and the reaction will be slower. Carefully paint over the roots and massage them for 5-10 minutes, then apply the paint with a brush along the entire length, you can evenly distribute the mixture to the very tips with a comb.
  3. Then select the section of hair at the crown and do the same.

  6. If you only tint the regrown roots, then a few minutes before washing off the mixture, comb the paint to the very tips.
  7. 2-3 minutes before the end of the exposure time, wet your hair a little by sprinkling it with water using a spray bottle. So the color will turn out more stable and uniform.
  8. After the exposure time, rinse thoroughly with water and shampoo for colored hair.
  9. Then use a mask or balm, which is usually sold with paint, and rinse your hair again.
  10. All! Enjoy a new or updated hair color.

Mistakes when painting at home

You should not use any balms, masks and conditioners a few days before dyeing, since such products envelop the hairs with an invisible film. Such a mistake will lead to the fact that the dye will not be able to penetrate the rod, and the paint simply will not be taken. Even washing your hair is recommended no earlier than one day before the color change, so that there are no free radicals on the surface of the hairs.

Trusting the manufacturer is a mistake. Never assume that the color that is indicated on the outside of the package is exactly the shade that your hair will acquire. Since each person's hair has its own unique pigmentation, the result of staining in each individual case will be individual. On the back of the package, a palette of the original hair color and an approximate shade after dyeing is printed.

No need to radically change the color of the hair relative to the natural pigment. Choose a shade a shade or two darker or lighter than your natural shade so you won't be disappointed with the end result.

Colored hair care

Immediately after painting appearance hair is noticeably improved, they are well combed and styled, become obedient, smooth and shiny. But after a week, all these effects disappear: the curls fade, it is difficult to comb, they get very confused - all this is the result of the chemical action of the paint components. As a result, the strands lose their structure and moisture, degrease and dry out.

Therefore, dyed hair needs special care to restore and strengthen curls. Caring for dyed hair at home involves the following rules:

  1. Use high-quality special products for colored hair - shampoos and balms that neutralize the alkali, which, after dyeing, remained not only on the hair, but also on the scalp. Read more:
  2. Don't put too much stress on your hair. Try to do without curling irons, straighteners and hot hair dryers, and if they are rarely used, use thermal styling products.
  3. Be sure to comb during the day and before going to bed, and do it right: start combing long strands from the ends, it is not recommended to comb wet dyed curls, wait until they dry.
  4. Try to wash your hair less often - no more than twice a week, so that the color lasts longer. And when washing, use slightly warm, but not hot, boiled or distilled water.
  5. Avoid using special shampoos for oily hair and therapeutic shampoos for dandruff in the first month after dyeing the hair.
  6. Two to three weeks after the pigmentation procedure, do not visit the pool, which contains chlorinated water, and also protect your hair from ultraviolet sunlight.
  7. To restore and maintain the vitality of curls, they need nourishment, so start taking multivitamin complexes, and also use vitamin balms.

Care for dyed hair at home should be based on three basic principles: systematic, constancy and complexity. Then your hairstyle will delight you with health and beauty.

Video: how to dye your hair at home yourself

Unfortunately, we do not always have the opportunity and time to visit beauty salons and hairdressers.

Much cheaper and easier to do everything yourself at home.

But how to do it right in order to be satisfied with the result? We will analyze step by step how to dye your hair at home on your own.

  • Preparing hair for coloring - what you need to consider

First you need to decide on the consumption of paint.

If you have short hair(up to 35 cm), one tube is enough for you, and if long - at least two.

Do not wash your hair two days before dyeing, as clean curls are more susceptible to the harmful effects of the chemical composition of the paint.

Necessary items for painting

At the beginning of the process, you should prepare all the necessary items.

So, in addition to the coloring agent itself, we need:

The thing should not be a pity if it is stained with paint.

  • 2. Paint brush
  • 3. Plastic or porcelain dishes (not metal!)

To mix paint with an oxidizing agent, you will need any non-metallic utensils, since under the action of an oxidizing agent, the metal oxidizes and this can affect the color of your hair.

  • 4. Disposable gloves

You can buy latex medical gloves. Or you can use the cellophane gloves that come with the paint.

  • 5. Comb with large teeth

To separate the strands, you will need a convenient simple plastic or wooden comb with teeth, but not a metal one.

How to dye your hair at home - step by step

  • Steps to take before staining

Read the instructions that come with the paint and find out what precautions to take, the exposure time of the paint, and how to use it.

In a plastic bowl, mix the oxidizer in the box with the paint itself until smooth. Do not use metal objects for stirring.

Comb your hair well.

For better coloring and more bright color you can spray your hair with water. They should be slightly damp, do not wet them too much, otherwise the paint will not fall on the contrary.

In order to protect the skin of the face from coloring, it is necessary to smear the places along the hairline with a protective oily cream.

Cover your shoulders with a towel to avoid staining your skin.

Put on your gloves and start painting.

  • Coloring process

It is necessary to start staining from the back of the head.

Therefore, with the tip of the comb, divide the hair into 4 sectors, making a parting through the crown, as well as perpendicular to it, so that two temporal regions (left and right) and two occipital regions are obtained.

Secure each resulting part with a plastic clip.

Coloring is done starting from the strands at the back of the head. Next, paint is applied to the hair in the parietal zone. At the end, they move on to staining in the temple area. In this area, the hair is the thinnest, so their coloring is carried out faster.

Take a separate strand and with a brush, apply paint first to the roots, and then along the entire length. Treat each small strand in this way in turn.

Then gradually move on to all other parts of the hair.

Spread the rest of the paint on the hair closer to the roots and comb it well with a comb along the entire length.

At the end, comb your hair well with a wide-toothed comb so that the dye is evenly distributed along the entire length.

Soak the paint for the time specified in the instructions (usually about thirty minutes).

  • How to paint regrown roots

When staining regrown roots, the paint is applied first to the regrown roots and lasts for thirty minutes.

After that, having sprinkled the hair a little with water, it is good to comb the curls from the roots along their entire length with a comb to smooth the transition and leave the paint for another 5-7 minutes.

  • Painting regrown roots - video

In the presence of many gray hair the staining time must be extended by ten minutes.

After the dyeing time has elapsed, wash off the dye with warm water until the water runs clear. Use shampoo for colored hair.

Be sure to rinse your curls with the hair protection conditioner that comes with the dye kit. It softens and protects them from the aggressive effects of the chemical composition, making them shiny and smooth.

If paint gets on the skin, it can be easily removed by mixing lemon juice and any skin cream.

It is important to remember about special care for colored hair. With the chemical effect of the paint, the hair loses its strength, shine, becomes thinner and brittle, therefore it is recommended to treat them with masks, creams and balms to restore, nourish and moisturize.

  • How to dye your hair at home correctly - video

But very often, people who are going to do the staining on their own, the question arises: how to paint? Let's try to understand this issue.

After the choice of paint was made, all necessary tools and the paint itself, it remains only to start painting. By the way, before painting, do not forget to carefully prepare the surface: putty, level and prime, if it needs it.

To calculate paint consumption, you can use the paint consumption calculator.

Applying paint.

Apply paint you can use a paint brush, paint roller or a special spray gun (by the way, the spray gun is the most economical and high-quality way to paint).

Often, it is rarely possible to obtain high-quality decorative coating after painting the surface in one layer, so the paint must be applied in several layers.

Upper layer - primer. The substrate must be primed or primed, in rare cases a highly diluted base paint can also be used.

The next layer is applied so-called underlying layer. This layer helps even out the color and provides a level surface for the last finishing coat.

Paints that have an adhesive base are usually applied in 2 layers, water based paints- in 3, and some glossy coatings require the application of six layers or more.

If you apply paint with a brush, then keep in mind that there are simple rules coloring with this tool:

  • The brush is held with a slight inclination to the surface.
  • Dip the brush into the paint approximately 1/3 ¼ / hair length.
  • Excess paint must be squeezed out on the edge of the can.
  • You need to start work from hard-to-reach places and corners, smoothly moving to flat areas.

Complete with paint rollers, you can often find a special pallet on which the paint is “rolled out”. The special cellular texture of the flat part of the pallet allows you to remove excess paint from the roller, as well as evenly distribute it over the “coat” of the roller.

If you have chosen a paint spray gun for work, then carefully study the instructions for it, as well as the recommendations on the can of paint. The paint will need to be thinned to working thickness (it should flow freely through the outlet of the idle gun). When painting, the paint sprayer must be kept at a distance of 20-60 centimeters from the wall, moved 5-30 centimeters per second away from you. Be sure to keep an eye on the level of paint in the tank: if air enters the nozzle, an uncontrolled release of paint may occur.

If you bought paint in an aerosol can, then when working with it, you also need to observe the distance to the surface. If the distance is too small - the paint will bubble, too large - the coating will not adhere well. In addition, paint should be sprayed only while the cylinder is moving, otherwise an excess amount of paint will get into one place and streaks will form. When applying paint from a spray can or with a spray gun, make sure that the paint does not get on the surrounding objects and does not stain them.

If you are painting the wall in segments or you need to get an even border of color, then you can safely use masking tape.

Attention: each layer of paint must be applied in a direction perpendicular to the previous one. Do not apply excessive amounts of paint to the surface. After application, it is recommended to rub the paint well to avoid streaks. The top coat should be applied with wide strokes from top to bottom. In the case when you use quick-drying paint, then it should be applied in short strokes all the time in one direction.

  • Paint from the vertical edge of the panel,
  • Then proceed to painting the panel itself,
  • Then process the central vertical part,
  • After that - the outer verticals and finally - the outer edges.

When painting a door, it must be remembered that the movement of the brush must be directed along the fibers.

Take care of the protection of glasses, you can protect them with scotch tape.

After the above steps, proceed to painting the strips with which the glass is attached.

For such work, it is better to use a small thin brush (for example, a panel brush) or a brush with an oblique cut. You should start painting from the inner surfaces, after which you need to give them time to dry and only then move on to the outer ones. The ends of the frames, the window frame, the slopes and the window sill are painted last.

If the paint suddenly gets on the glass or on another surface, it should be removed with a suitable solvent.

by the most in a simple way to get a decorative coating is to apply paint with a sponge.

For decorative painting, you can use undiluted emulsion paint, for wood and metal, oil paint is the best option. A natural sponge works best for this. Before starting work, soften the sponge in water or white spirit. For high-quality staining, it is better not to dip the sponge into the jar, but to use a shallow container with a small amount of paint for this (for example, a roller tray). When painting, the sponge should be rotated so that the pattern is irregular, the paint should be applied with light jerky movements. To paint corners and baseboards, use an almost dry sponge with a minimum amount of paint, because in hard-to-reach places the sponge has to be pressed harder and the pattern may be smeared.

Other materials can also be used for decorative painting - fabric strips with an interesting texture or with knots tied to it, special textured rollers, brushes, various stamps and stencils. In general, any item with an interesting pattern or unusual texture will help you create a unique decor of its kind.
